Get ready for another season of East End Fourth Fridays! as DiverseArts Culture Works in collaboration with the East End IBIZ District brings the community block party back for another year to the neighborhood.  This year promises to bring new levels of community growth and fun as several local businesses will be offering specials, happy hours and entertainment throughout the day.

Throughout the evening, we also invite you to enjoy the various family friendly activities we will have available. Come see the kid-focused entertainment in the Kenny Dorham’s Backyard Kids’ Corner, a special area for kids to play and enjoy the day. Each month, Kids’ Corner will feature arts and crafts, toys, free books from our exchange library, and free pizza for kids(while it lasts!) provided by East Side Pies.

The evening promises to have something for everyone, so don’t miss the opportunity to hang out and support your favorite local businesses. For more information and daily updates, check out the East End Fourth Fridays Facebook page,, or the DiverseArts website,

Featured Bands:

Ortega Elementary SuperStar Band Ortega Elementary SuperStar Band (under 18 rock band) - the Ortega Elementary Superstar Choir is a group of (currently) 45 hardworking 2nd - 5th grade students who rehearse twice a week for an hour and a half each time. Since the Fall of 2005, we have been performing our brand of African-American spirituals for audiences around Austin. We celebrate the history of this music -- many of these songs were important as "code songs" during the time of slavery, and many were later important as "freedom songs" during the Civil Rights Era. Besides these important historical roles, these songs just plain sound great and make you want to move -- maybe that is why they were also important in the formation of such popular American musical styles as Rhythm and Blues, Soul, and even Rock and Roll. Done Superstar Choir style, these songs include (besides wonderful singing) foot stomping and hanclapping, bass, snare and floor tom drums played by the students, and baritone guitar (bass meets guitar) by me -- their music teacher and fearless leader.

East Side Blues Syndicate

The EastSide Blues Syndicate  and Special Guests - The East Side Blues Syndicate is a true family affair. Born out of the weekly 'Blue Monday' Blues Jams at The Historic Victory Grill in Austin, TX, the ESBS has quickly developed a fierce reputation for being one of the truly unique acts to come out of Austin's East Side in quite some time.

Led by Matthew Robinson's blues-hound vocals and guitar, Jose "Sweet Tone" Ruiz' lightning quick jazz harmonica, Roland Lawes' latin and caribbean influenced percussion, Harold McMillan's melodic bass lines, and Mike Blue's striking and soulful guitar work, the band transforms obscure blues tunes and originals with each member's collective vision and taste.

The result? A soul band? Yes. A blues band? Yes. A jazz quintent? Most certainly.

Something you've heard before? Absolutely not…..

The Blues Posse

The Blues Posse - "The Blues Posse" is about "The Blues"
High energy foot stompin, toe tappin', jump/jive dancin' music that will rock your soul, melt your heart, make you laugh and even shed a tear- Created to enlighten the youth and remind the experienced just what the blues is all about. Let us take you back to the first time you heard the blues...we want to blow you away every time you hear us perform for you. We recreate 'Old School' and put a new twist to it every time. From Classic Covers to Trail-Blazing Originals-The Blues is for you! Nuthin' But The Blues, and Blues You Can Use...LIVE!!! This Blues is for you where ever you are from. Southern Blues, Big City Blues, Swamp Blues...Old school is the rule. </;~} If you think the blues is not for you, give us a chance and we'll prove you wrong. We know you'll be coming back to see us again and again.
