Live Oak Brewing Company

Live Oak Brewing Company

Live Oak Brewing Company is truly a home-grown Austin enterprise. Two of Austin's own homebrews, Chip McElroy and Brian Peters, literally hand-built the brewery and were the two main brewers, keg washers, delivery persons, and proselytizers. Live Oak has grown since then, but we are still just as passionate about providing delicious old-world style beers that are rarely commercially available.

 Phogg Phoundation

The Phogg Phoundation for the Pursuit of Happiness

Youth Emergency Service, Inc., dba The Phogg Phoundation for the Pursuit of Happiness, is a private non-profit (501[c]3) organization dedicated to preserving the United States Constitution, Declaration of Independence and Bill of Rights, especially the right to pursue happiness and the right to privacy. While we have a special emphasis on and love for Austin and Texas, our interests are not limited by geographical boundaries. This year, grant recipients include groups working to:

• reform the criminal justice system, including ending the drug war;
• protect prisoners’ rights and end the death penalty;
• protect civil liberties and human rights, and to end racism and genocide;
• promote peace, and assist victims of war;
• provide health resource, housing and food to all, including meeting the needs of refugees and immigrants, and preserving women’s reproductive rights;
• protect our irreplaceable environment;
• preserve Jewish history, and fight anti-Semitism;
• support Native American rights and dignity;
• provide elders with respect and security;
• build democratic media, preserve historical resources, and oppose censorship;
• support progressive community arts and cultural institutions;
• build self-sufficiency in Third World countries and at home; and
• protect domestic and free (“wild”) animals.

In a year that has seen many foundations forced to reduce their charitable giving, we are especially blessed to be able to increase ours and while not alot of money, we know every little bit helps. While recent political and even economic developments in the US have given rise to hopes for social change, we know this is no time to rest or to assume that our leaders will make the right decisions. We urge you to network with all of our other grantees, to explore common interests, and to find ways to maximize your budgets and human resources through cooperative economics.

MAPEX Drums
We proudly provide MAPEX Drums for our live music performances.
Mapex drums are handcrafted by hundreds of dedicated employees who skillfully apply their talent and expertise to their craft.

All Mapex products are hand built and hand assembled by the artisans at its Mapex manufacturing facilities in Tianjin, China. The people at Mapex have earned a distinguished reputation for designing, engineering and building the highest quality acoustic drums. In fact, Mapex is one of the only companies of its kind to have earned ISO9001 certification - the world's standard for manufacturing excellence.

Building the highest quality product initially depends on the expertise of those that select the raw materials - in particular, the wood. This is why the Mapex Professional Wood Grading Team selects only the finest raw materials to build its drums. Premium grade hardwoods like maple, walnut, birch and basswood are hand-selected from worldwide sources and are then matched by skilled experts to ensure that every drum Mapex produces carries with it the signature tonal and resonant properties that define the distinctive Mapex sound.

Mapex not only wants you to sound your best, you need to look great too. On all of its painted drums, Mapex finish experts hand apply an eight-coat, hand-rubbed, high-gloss lacquer to each shell. Mapex finishes are durable, easy to maintain and will help make you the envy of your drumming community.

The employees at Mapex apply the same high standard of quality across the entire family of products. Every Mapex drum, regardless of price, is built to exacting specifications. Mapex has created a working environment that encourages growth, spirit and dedication to craftsmanship. The people that make Mapex drums are the best at what they do and they take pride in their ability to do it.

The result is a drum that you take on stage or into the studio with complete confidence that your style and creativity will be not only perfectly reproduced, but enhanced.

Rock & Roll Rentals

Rock N Roll Rentals

"Renting & Selling Austin PA systems, instruments, amps, microphones, audio visual, recording, karaoke, and DJ equipment for the best rates since 1989."

Starting as "Danny's Guitars" in the early 1980's, Rock N Roll Rentals started as a local haven for guitar traders. The rental concept started during a decline in the economy when a representative from Yorkville approached owner Jim Norman with a rental concept used by Long & McQuade in Canada. In fall of 1989, realizing that Austin's growing music scene needed a support system for musicians to have affordable access to not-so-affordable equipment, the Austin City Council in conjunction with Bank of the Hills provided a loan to Rock N Roll Rentals to expand their inventory.

Years later, Rock N Roll rentals has found itself in its original location with a new building- holding firm it's original concept, but providing a much more extensive selection of goods; from recording studio gear to public-address systems, video projectors to HD Video cameras.

I Live Here, I Give Here

I Live Here, I Give Here

Austin is no doubt a caring community. But we don't act on our charitable values by sharing our financial resources with nonprofit organizations. National studies consistently find Austinites give far less to charitable causes than people in other cities. In fact, Austin is ranked 48th out of the 50 largest cities in the nation in per capita giving. The I Live Here, I Give Here campaign is on a mission to boost local giving by educating fellow Austinites about the needs in our community.

  East End LogoAustin Independent Business Alliance

The Austin Independent Business Alliance works to promote locally owned businesses and speak to the concerns of independent business. Our mission is to shift more dollars to locally owned independent businesses by helping shoppers make fully informed decisions by recognizing the full value that locally owned independent businesses provide to our community. The value includes, but is not limited to, serving local customers' tastes and owners' preferences, spending profits locally instead of exporting them to distant corporate headquarters, carrying a higher percentage of locally made goods, and providing unique goods and services that contribute to the nature and character of Austin.

The East End IBIZ District, which runs along East 11th Street and Rosewood Avenue, hosts a mixture of rich cultural history and new shops, which has led it to become one of the city's most popular hangout streets. Locals hit the restaurant and bar patios here on languid summer evenings or drop by the cultural gathering places of years past. With coffee shops, cafes, restaurants and entertainment venues, the district is a truly a neighborhood gathering spot.

Special trips to the district include: visiting the local wine shop for tastings that will tantalize your tongue, catching live music at one of the historic venues, the best BBQ in the nation, a day trip to one of the local museums or dinner at one of the district's local restaurants. For a blast from the area's past, check out the Texas Music Museum, the Carver Museum, The Historic Victory Grill or The French Legation. All host rotating exhibits that showcase the history of Austin.

In addition, the East End is a wonderful destination for those seeking a healthy lifestyle. You can practice yoga, get a massage, visit medicinal practitioners and eat healthy, local food.

Notable history of the district is that it is one of Austin's original African American Districts. In early Austin history, social segregation led many African Americans to the East Austin neighborhoods which created a self-sustaining enclave, including strong cultural institutions, thriving commerce, two colleges and a lively nightlife. The district is now a destination to all who seek a place that is truly unique to Austin.

Follow the East End IBIZ District on facebook and twitter to find out events, sales and specials happening in the district.
