Through the generous support of the Austin Revitalization Authority, RunWay Underground's NTUMA'PA Apparel Production Workroom, Fashion Incubator and Textile Studio will remain in our temporary space at 1000 E. 11th Street through the end of August.  After presenting a second session of RWU's NTUMA'PA Apparel Production Skills Boot Camp Workshops in June, RunWay Underground will present a series of fun and unique fashion industry and textile workshops, presentations, trunk shows, special sales and other fashion and production related activities through our the summer to take advantage of being in this great store front space on E. 11th Street. Not only as one of few Black owned (retail and arts) businesses still on E. 11th Street but in the entire newly designated Afrikan American Heritage District...

At the NTUMA'PA Workroom-Studio space passersby often stop or pull over to look in  amazement at the dress forms in the large street level picture windows. The dress from don't have on typical designer dresses of customary fabrics, they're avant garde garments made of Capital Metro printed/paper bus schedules and system maps that are actually wearable!

Through the rest of the summer RWU and NTUMA'PA member designers, Boot Camp participants and folks from Austin's fashion and production communities will be able to hold meetings; meet clients; fit and audition models; pop in for construction advice and help; take classes and attend workshops; meet with industry professional mentors; use reference materials; machines and other supplies they may not have; provide project assistance to others, and have space to work on client orders... NTUMA'PA is an all purpose space for RWU's member designers and staff as well as a Fashion Incubator for Austin's fashion community.

NTUMA'PA will provide the only alteration services in the E. 11th Street corridor area as a means of challenging and further training our more advanced apparel technicians and fashion designers as well as providing them with much needed additional income while providing a community service.

@ 1000 E. 11th Street, Ste. 110

Fee: $75 each day  or $125 both — Limited to 10 model-students.

The goal of RWU's SPECTRUM Program Model Coaching boot camp-retreat is to help raise the standard of Austin's fashion models. By providing Austin's potential, novice and experienced models with professional information, tips, coaching and real industry insights they either learn the hard way or never get and what most agent/agencies don't take the time to teach before sending their models out into the fashion world in wobbly stilettos.

RWU's Lead Model Agent and Coach, Nailah I. Sankofa will guide novice and experienced models (male and female) through this 2-day boot camp style workshop. First covering everything from correct and real fashion world runway model coaching; what to do, know and bring to photo shoots and fittings; professional behavior on assignments; what to wear and expect at auditions and auditioning tips. We'll touch on contracts, releases and confidentiality agreements; how to identify legit and really experienced/professional agents, agencies and photographers. The signs of a sweet supportive parent about to turn into a "mommager" and how mommagers from fashion hell will get their teen models kicked out of a show or off a shoot.  Safe and professional model industry practices. Hair, makeup and styling tips (males and females) from our lead staff stylists and guest RWU partner spa owners.  The biggest mistakes most models make in the industry and tips for male models on how not to look like hybrid robot male escorts on the runway.  That's just day one...

Day two of the SPECTRUM boot camp-retreat will be focus on the print side of modeling. After a presentation and coaching session with with three of professional photographers, including RWU's lead photographer Jenn Hill participants will prep for a test shoot. Jenn, Nailah and RWU's most experienced models will coach and direct participating models through a quick but full on professional test shoots. We'll provide pointers and critics on posing, lighting, energy and taking direction. Participants will receive up to three photos (1 high res edited and two raw) for their portfolios by the end of the retreat.

Model-students can be agency represented or freelance.

Participants must enroll by 3pm on Friday, 14 August 2014.
