We’re back in action! Papi Mali’s 2nd Annual HOODOO Blues & BBQ is back again to support DiverseArts and bring into the East End some funk you can move to. Come spend the afternoon eating some appetizing BBQ and grooving to some of the nation’s best players laying down real, soul-soaked Louisiana funk and swamp blues. If you enjoyed the show last year, then you sure will be pleased with who we’re bringing to the stage the second time around.  Austin’s own favorite rastafunkian, Papa Mali plays hosts to this great lineup that includes special guests Wendy Colonna, Josh Charles, The Greyhounds, and Topaz and Mudphonic. Trust us, this is a lineup you don’t want to miss.

Doors open at 12 with a $7 admission. It’s an all ages show, so bring the whole family onto the lawn at Kenny Dorham’s Backyard and enjoy a relaxing afternoon of great food, great music, and a healthy helping of East Side Hospitality. By doing so you’ll be supporting DiverseArts and our mission of keeping some soul in the heart of the city.  For years now, DiverseArts has been your source for high quality cultural programs for Central East Austin. And, since 2005 we’ve brought Austin’s best, brightest, and most soulful bands and performers to grace the stage at Kenny Dorham’s Backyard. We are only able to do this because of key supporters who help make sure that we afford to keep the lights on, the music hopping, and the culture alive.  And, that’s what the annual HOODOO BLUES & BBQ is all about.

Once again the good folks at FunkyBatz and Papa Mali have joined forces to show us some love. We invite you to join us for this neighborhood party. We’ll be there to feed your head, heart and soul with the real deal.  And even in the midst of the huge SXSW music fest, we promise to give you a taste of something that no one else can give you: a peaceful day in the Backyard, good food, and a mix of music you’ll not likely find anywhere else in town. The East End is culture-rich and DiverseArts is just doing what we can to preserve that and keep it going into the future.  Your presence and support will keep us on track with that.

Please join Papa Mali, FunkyBatz and DiverseArts as we come together to help raise funds to keep Kenny Dorham’s Backyard alive and well. That will assure that we keep it real in the East End—the soul in the heart of the city.”
