DiverseArts and Bemba Entertainment bring the music and culture of Cuba and Latin America straight into the heart of East Austin.  Bemba Beat, a summer-long concert series, benefits DiverseArts Culture Works while providing international and world music and culture to the East Austin community.  Every 2nd and 4th Saturday this summer, DiverseArts and Bemba Entertainment will showcase music styles from around the world at Kenny Dorham’s Backyard in the heart of East Austin’s Cultural Heritage District.

This installment of Bemba Beat will feature performances by Cerranato at 9:00 p.m. and ProjectoSaoko at 10:30 p.m. Food, beverages, and beer will be available for sale to guests.

Cerronato is a local Austin band who plays original music using the Colombian Vallenato and Cumbia traditions. These expert musicians play an array of instruments including, the accordian, guacharaca, small drum, and bongo drum. Cerronato's heartrending and beautiful vocals are wails of passion on the backdrop of their moving, four-part harmonies. Each of their performances is a celebration of life at its finest. More...

ProjectoSaoko's percussion music is inspired by AfroCuban traditions and the saints of the Yoruba religion. Striving to maintain and share the kind of music created in Cuba by slaves, ProjectoSaoko puts on thrilling and uplifting performances, mending broken hearts and souls with the beats of their drums.
