DiverseArts and Bemba Entertainment bring the music and culture of Brazil straight into the heart of East Austin.  Bemba Beat, a summer-long concert series, benefits DiverseArts Culture Works while providing  international and world music and culture to the East Austin community.  Every 2nd and 4th Saturday this summer, DiverseArts and Bemba Entertainment will showcase music styles from around the world at Kenny Dorham’s Backyard in the heart of East Austin’s Cultural Heritage District.

This Saturday, June 27th, Bemba Beat showcases the music and culture of Brazil with performances by Capoeira Evolução, The Flying Club, Monica Da Silva, and Frederico7.

Capoeira Evolução, a local stronghold for the instruction and preservation of Capoeira, provides demonstrations of the Afro-Brazilian martial art.  Capoeira emphasizes both the style and expressiveness of the players, combining the elements of dance, music, and acrobatics.  The result is a rhythmically and visually dynamic martial art.  For more information, please visit http://www.capoeiraevolucao.com/.

The Flying Club, grounded in Austin, Texas, soars with a fusion of American, Brazilian, and world musical styles.  Their 2006 release, “Far and Away,” received critical praise from local and national sources and radio airplay in the US, Europe, and Brazil.  Preparing for the release of new material in the fall of 2009, The Flying Club is bringing a new sound to the stage and Bemba Beat in East Austin.  For more information, please visit www.theflyingclub.net.

Monica da Silva, a Brazilian/American artist, writes and performs in English, Portuguese, Spanish, and Italian with style blend of Jazz, Bossa Nova and Pop.  Her music has appeared in national and international commercials and primetime shows on CBS, NBC, and MTV.  Monica is currently recording a CD, “Brasilissima” to follow up her 2007 release, “Miles from Nowhere.”  For more information, please visit http://monicadasilva.com.

A reincarnation of Sade and Bob Marley as a Brazilian composer, Frederico7 offers a unique acoustic experience.  The former frontman of bands such as Ghandaia and Funk Brasil, he combines Brazilian classics with his own original compositions to produce a blend of Bossa-Nova and acoustic funk filled with charm, grace, and soul.  With an original and joyous sound, Frederico7 brings the music of Brazil to East 11th.

DiverseArts and Bemba Entertainment invite you to attend the second of six BembaBeats concerts in the heart of East Austin to experience the musical and artistic styles of Brazil.
