Temporarily Closed Due To FireDiverseArts Little Gallery and offices, along with the workspaces of other nonprofit groups, individual artists, film makers, and arts professionals suffered severe losses when the GuadalupeArts Center burned on January 31. Some tenants had all of their work consumed by the fire. Most have serious heat/smoke/water/soot damage to artwork, inventory and supplies, office furniture, computers, and personal belongings. Most were not sufficiently (or at all) insured. Our space received serious heat, smoke and water damage. We lost art work, gallery inventory, computer hardware/software, AV gear, CDs/tapes, paper records, etc. The good news is that we did not lose everything. We are hopeful that our audio/video archive did not suffer serious losses. We did lose some of our print archive to soot/smoke/water damage. Everything is covered in black soot, but we hope that after the top layer is removed we will be able to put things back together and make sense of what remains. We are now forced to relocate because damage to the building renders it uninhabitable. DiverseArts now needs help recovering from this devastating event. How can you help? We now seek financial assistance, advice/expertise and access to resources to help us relocate and address our most pressing needs. Just as crucial is advice and resources for salvaging/restoring damaged photographs, audio/video tapes, and AV gear. We also need volunteers to help with this process. The entire Blues Family Tree archive was exposed to this fire event. There are also paintings, prints, sculpture, and artifacts that need immediate attention. The last 15 years of DiverseArts's collection and documentation lived in this office space. Storage and clean-up work space is needed immediately; office/exhibition space soon thereafter. If you have advice, expertise, or other resources to offer, please send email to: fire@diversearts.org We appreciate your concern and assistance. Sincerely, Harold McMillan Founder/Director DiverseArts Production Group
