DiverseArts is pleased to announce the headliner for July's East End Fourth Fridays: Matthew Robinson and The Texas Blues Band. Robinson has deep roots in Austin blues, having learned his craft from the legendary bluesmen W.C. Clark, James Polk, Martin Banks and Clarence Pierce. Matthew Robinson and The Texas Blues Band are, as the Austin Chronicle notes, "the real deal; sweaty blues, club blues, the kind you have to look a little harder for. The kind you're always glad you found." In a career spanning over thirty years, Robinson has worked with, among others, James Brown, Jimmy Reed and Big Mama Thornton while carving out a place for himself as one of Austin's finest blues guitarists and band leaders.
Returning to the stage will be the Kenny Dorham Youth Jazz Workshop Jam, showcasing some of Austin's best young musical talents. Also performing is the Hayes McMillan Band, playing original, blues-inspired rock. Hayes, age 10, a student at Austin Guitar School and protégé of Tony Redman, will be singing and playing guitar, accompanied by veteran performers Tony Redman, David McEvoy, Harold McMillan, & Derek Hanson.
Join us at Kenny Dorham's Backyard for live music, refreshments courtesy of Live Oak Brewery and East End Craft Vendors, as well as events at participating businesses throughout the East End. Children are welcome as always, with entertainment just for them at the Fourth Friday Kid's Corner including free books, free pizza, arts and crafts, directed painting activity, and a moonwalk. Events start along the street at 5:30 PM and doors at Kenny Dorham's Backyard (1106 E. 11th St., just East of the Victory Grill) will open at 6:00 PM, a donation of $5 to $10 is suggested.
