This is a soft opening for my Farmers Market at Kenny Dorham's Backyard. Come and enjoy, art, the community garden and conversation about food!
We'll have free coffee if you bring your own mug! We're aiming for a zero waste event!
Bring your surplus vegetables and herbs to trade with your neighbors too!

Mission:
The Purple Bean Farmers Market is dedicated to facilitate access to healthy food in East Austin and create a community of education and support around food in general. Creating a network between the residents and food/community-oriented organizations in the city is one of the highest priorities. Another important goal is to become a zero-waste market.

Format:
The market would be active Saturday mornings, year round, from 9am to 1pm. Vendors will be encouraged to focus on recyclable containers for existing products as to achieve a zero-waste standard. The sell of to-go food and drinks, as well as sampling, involving non-compostable containers will not be allowed on the grounds during market hours from vendors involved with the market.

Vendors:
The market will be focused on food but will also welcome retail articles to be sold, especially produced in nearby farms or by local businesses. A minimum requirement of producers will be honored at all time to live up to city’s requirement of a certified farmers market in Austin. Community and non-profit organizations are invited to showcase and communicate their efforts while connecting with the patrons as well.

Network:
Cross networking with the local businesses and community associations is ongoing and strong and will be centered on the food desert issues in East Austin. The growth of the market will be directly connected to the community to create a symbiotic relationship with the neighborhood and the city.

Entertainment:
DiverseArts Culture Arts will collaborate on all programming planned for live performance at Kenny Dorham's Backyard
