Join us as we celebrate the end of the year, and a bright beginning for 2012, with good food, excellent music, and a dance party reminiscent of the heyday of the Historic Victory Grill and the vibrant East End community that we call home.

Musical entertainment for the night ranges from Caribbean steel drum music, to soul and R&B, to classic Texas Blues. Headlining the night is the East Side Blues Syndicate, an all-star ensemble featuring Matthew Robinson, Harold McMillan, and Jose “Sweet-Tone” Ruiz with the band that has grown out of the poplar Blue Monday Blues Jams over the course of the past two years. This soulful unit delivers the blues—from down-home, to big city groove—with heart and soul. ESBSyndicate puts their unique stamp on each tune, reinterpreting obscure blues anthems and popular blues standards in a manner that shows their musical versatility while honoring their direct connection to the blues tradition.

Joining the festivities are two ESBSyndicate extended-family acts that make the night a true musical treat. We are happy to feature one of Austin’s bright stars on the blues horizon, Mr. Woody Russell. Currently showcased on the popular nationally syndicated CW Network TV show, Troubadour,TX (http://woodyrussell.com/intro.cfm), Woody Russell is a critically acclaimed bandleader who shows uncommon equal talent as a lead guitarist, songwriter, and vocalist. His recent album of originals (Up Against It) is praised in the media nation-wide and his expanding fan-base shows hints that wide-spread attention for Woody’s blistering guitar work and soulful vocals are set to play on the national stage. His set is not to be missed.

Rounding out the evening is Executive Steel Band. This Caribbean-flavored, steel drum-led band is the project of New Orleans native and ESBSyndicate drummer, Roland Laws. Bringing a mix of traditional Island rhythms and New Orleans soul, Executive Steel is the perfect dance band for a Holiday Party…Calypso, Reggae, Salsa, and Samba rolled out in a jazzy-funky wrapper that makes it impossible NOT to dance. Originals and standards performed with soul-felt honesty and infectious groove.

After the champagne toast at midnight, the stage opens up for our invitational First Blues Jam of 2012, led by one of Austin’s hottest young blues guitar slingers, Johnny Glass. Going until the early morning hours, there will be mix and match ensembles that feature the Blues Syndicate’s extended family of players and a few “secret” special guests. Sure to offer a string of one-of-a-kind musical moments that can’t be duplicated again. Do not miss it.

Making sure it’s a party, and not just a show, The Victory Grill will offer up appetizers, party favors, and the traditional toast at midnight (and Black Eyed Peas!). For your convenience, feel free to bring your own SEALED bottles of your favorite Liquor. The Victory will have all the setups you need to mix your drinks! In addition, at the end of the party we won’t have to leave hungry. Make plans to make it a long night, in the same place (plenty of close-by, free parking). An early morning breakfast menu will help you start your recovery even before you leave the venue!!
