SXSW Tejano Music Showcase hopes to increase resident participation
Thursday, March 18 Kenny Dorham’s Backyard opens its doors to the SXSW Tejano Music Showcase, featuring Los Texas Wranglers, El Tule, and two Grammy award winners, Rueben Ramos & The Mexican Revolution, and Little Joe y La Familia.

Los Texas Wranglers are the 2008 and 2009 recipients of the Best Latin/Traditional band at the "Austin Music Awards." They have performed together for 10 years performing with the best in Tejano, Conjunto, Blues, Jazz, R&B, and Country bands.

For the past six years, El Tule has been combining sounds of Cumbia, Afro Cuban, Rock, Merengue, Salsa and Reggae to create music inspired by culture, history, and art.

Ruben Ramos & The Mexican Revolution are winners of numerous awards, most notably, winners of the Best Mexican American Performance for their self titled CD at the 1999 Grammy's. They play traditional Tejano music complete with the sound of true horns, real drums with crashing cymbals, and the accordion.

Little Joe y La Familia is the Grammy award winner of the 1991 Best Mexican American album, for "Diez y Seis de Septiembre." They have been Grammy nominated four other times, most recently in 2003.  Little Joe has been performing authentic Tejano music for 40 years and has released over 50 albums.

The doors open at 6 p.m. with Los Texas Wranglers performing first at 7 p.m. The cost is $10 without a SXSW wristband or badge.  Kenny Dorham’s Backyard is located 1106 E. 11th St.

The event is co-sponsored by TODO Austin, Bemba Entertainment, Diverse Arts, and Austin Tejano Music Coalition.
